So once a week I wrangle Ricky into watching the kids and I disappear up into the garret. It's quiet and warm up there and there are paintings that need my attention. Ricky and I had a discussion the other night about our weird multiple occupational facets--he's a specialized mechanic for the railroad by day and builds motorcycles and plays in a band at night and on weekends, I manage an auction house by day and paint at night and on weekends. Plus we're parents, obviously. We fit into some odd niches.
So things are okay. Now that I'm back to "work" work, we're finally starting to get caught up on bills and stuff and that's a good feeling. Now if the damn hospital would quit sending us bills...
The kids are doing well. I think Ian's got eczema and I'm going to be taking him to the doctor this week. Poor little guy is rubbing his eyes and scratching his face and he's just rashy all over. I started bathing him with Cetaphil and using CeraVe lotion and that's helped a lot. His laundry is still done with Dreft and no softeners or dryer sheets, but I think I might get some special detergent for the rest of us in the house.
Esther has really started to get the hang of reading and it's awesome to watch her tackle new words.
Ricky is gearing up for the World of Wheels show that's in two weeks. He and the other guys in his new motorcycle shop are working on a couple of new bikes for that.
I'm so tired of winter and cold and snow--I just want some sunshine and warm weather and green growing things! This winter has been a bear.
But yes! Paintings!

This one was finished before Ian was born--I just hadn't gotten around to photographing it. These will both be going to the Blue Gallery later this week after "Wayward" dries and is ready to hang.
And I still haven't gotten my aceo prints made up yet. The printing company I use is having a sale in the next month or so and I'm stalling until then, because I'm broke.
Happy trails!

I like the new paintings, esp the pallet that you used in "Wayward Garden". Just curious, why do you paint on board and not stretched canvas?
I like the palette for Wayward Green! So fresh and spring like. Just curious, do you prefer painting on board- what about stretched canvas?
How beautiful these both are! You constantly amaze me.
Love you lots,
Momvcf
They're gorgeous, Amy! I'm a sucker for anything with bugs... and a pretty lady with red lips and a praying mantis on her shoulder is perfect in my book. : )
Thanks ladies! I'm glad you like 'em.
Hey there Janice--I honestly will paint on just about anything. I happened to start "Wayward" over an old painting on canvas board that I had picked up somewhere. I just gesso over the old painting and start a new piece. Recycling, I guess you could say.
When I was in college I'd go dumpster diving for pieces of wood and stuff to paint on. I don't go that far anymore, but I still have a hard time passing up free art materials!
the painting with the mantis is exquisite! i hope your baby gets some relief with his skin. when my youngest son was a baby we had this same problem. i did finally start washing all our clothes in dreft and would do a double rinse. i also had to make sure my husband didn't hold him in a shirt from the dry cleaner's that really irritated his skin. it finally cleared up but it took a couple years. and i still use a laundry cleaner with no dyes or scents and no fabric softener. 'hope he feels better soon!
"Wayward" is gorgeous! The colors are just perfect. "Gray Secrets" is lovely, too. You always paints eyes so beautifully.
your work is gorgeous as ever! Really nice to see your hand in oil paint. My 1 yr old daughter has had mild eczema for most of her life, but it's never seemed to be too itchy for her (whew!). The doctor told us to use Dove sensitive skin body wash, no scents in anything etc. She also recommended Eucerin, but we also like Aveeno. Hers isn't very severe though. Don't make yourself too miserable trying to prevent it though, so many tiny little things can set it off and they're supposed to grow out of it eventually. When my studio is finished, hopefully I will be able to make the time to go and escape into creation half as frequently as you do! Kudos!
wow...these are both so stunning! But Wayward Garden...wow. Love love love.
such beautiful work, I'm in love...
